The Archivio Capitolare houses an important musical collection, the first and primary nucleus of which consists of a collection of musical texts, in manuscript and printed form, connected to the activity of the Duomo’s chapel masters from the 16th to 20th century. In a unique series, the Bibliotheca musicalis also conserves collections that were added to the Archive by the church of San Filippo, once officiated by Padri dell’Oratorio, and by the donations of illustrious Pistoian families—the Gherardeschi, the Baldi Papini, and the Rospigliosi. The catalogue (in typescript), compiled by Umberto Pineschi, offers an invaluable research tool. On a first appraisal, the collection contains more than 5,000 pieces.
